Nice work I am going to try and get to at least one meet this year. I love Gymnastics, they are SO athletic. Please click on store original, and Add Attachment. Keep up the good work and post more. Thanks

Tom

What will "store original" do? Just getting into actually posting images rather than just browsing.

Nice shots, good timing. If you could limit the depth of field, to blur the background more, I think it would improve the shots.

Nice work. When you fill the frame your shots are right on.

Your comment "Please click on store original...". I am unsure as to what that will do. I have not selected that option before.

It makes it possible for us to download and look at photo at 100%, and I think you can see all the exif information. Thanks

rcorne001 both of your NCSU Gymnastics "Groups" are epic and breathtaking... like ballerinas I find Gymnast to be likely the most highly trained and gifted athletes in all sports... their journey in this sport typically begins soon after they can walk...

Totally love both of these series... the elegance and grace latent within is simply amazing...
You have captured the true intensity and focus of these highly skilled Gymnast which showcases your talent behind the lens...

As for constructive critique? One of the hardest challenges in photographing sporting events is controlling backgrounds to allow the subject to command maximum attention... Far easier said than done... As one poster suggested using limited DOF... This is SOP for high end shooters going for publication... albeit the barrier to entry to this mode is typically cost prohibited thus may require a more ingenious approach for many...

Have you considered arriving early to canvass the venue for best angles to eliminate background "clutter"? This has worked well for me, albeit others I'm certain have far more elegant solutions... It likely gets down to actually hands-on experience in each of the venues you work... there is virtually no substitute for experience... at least in my humble estimation

Hope this helps rcorne001 or is food for thought...
Again many thanks for sharing these epic captures!

Thank you for your kind and encouraging words. It is sometimes tricky for me to get the "feel" I am looking for. I want a little DOF but not too much detail. I do try to remember to avoid shooting with empty seats in the background and to "get the eyes".

I will work on opening up the lens a bit more. All of my lenses now are f2.8 and as someone once said - "Shoot what you paid for!".

I have the luxury of a media pass so I can pretty much move around at will as long as I am not in a dangerous location for the athletes or a distraction.

I am also amazed at the athletic ability of these folks. Sometimes my achy knees and other joints react just watching them. (Won't even go into the moves where they are airborne and land in a split!)

The season is just about to start and you have given me some good feedback.
