Why have I never seen this beautiful documentary on Ansel Adams from the Eastman House museum?

The film is a little flat, but the insight into how he worked, and the footage of him carrying a huge stock of equipment into the field and working in his darkroom are priceless. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and maybe are inspired to go out into the field, with whatever gear pleases you. That's what I'm going to do next, for the first time in a while.

Thank you Andy! This was a film I had not seen and I enjoyed it very much, bookmarked and saved. Watching this took me to another Adams bio that I had seen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvt1ImIKi0U.
I hope folks will spend a little worthwhile time with this man.

I'd seen that one on PBS before. It's a masterful documentary in my opinion, well worth the hour or so. Every time someone tells me there's a difference between being an artist and a technician, I think of Adams. If he were alive today, he'd be as up to date on digital imaging and as concerned with gear as the most total gearhead, but he produced some of his greatest works using stuff that was far from the "Latest and Greatest". I honestly can't think of another figure from the world of the arts who combined his technical skill, artistic skill, and passion for a cause in the way that he did.

Being a photographer of about 45yrs. I never stop learning. And I have always loved to look at other work, by other artist. (If you are truly a student of the Art) When an image "Speaks to Me"...I believe I can "Hear It". Thanks for the post. I have seen this footage of AA before, but it was a joy to see it again!!! Thanks, Boone.

I guess I don't spend enough time on YouTube. I've seen other documentaries and films over the years, but this one of Adams at the peak of his talent and fame, eluded me until last week.
