A trip to Wellesbourne airfield in Warwickshire, UK, last weekend, to photograph a Cold War bomber.
Avro Vulcan B2, XM655 made its last flight in RAF service in 1984.
It is now one of only three Vulcans that are in taxiable condition.
All photographs were taken with a Canon EOS 7D with a Tamron 24-70 lens in RAW format, processed with DxO Photolab2.

WOW
Thanks.
Just had a flashback to the late 60's
I was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base.
A Vulcan B, Mach ll came in.They are a full delta wing and LARGE.
They were featured in "Thunderball".
The cockpit in the movie was a dance floor compaired to the real thing.
This one was camo painted, white belly.
When it left, it proved to be fast.
Into high clouds at an acute angle of takeoff NOW.
Thanks again.
Bill
Thanks for sharing. Very nice.
Very interesting shots - the last one looks like a scene from a movie.
WOW!!!! That last shot is spectacular! Excellent lighting and capture.

Videos good but doesn't do justice to the roar and the howl.
The photos are fantastic, would be wrong to choose one over the other but if I had too, I just say the night shots.

When I did my National Service in 1974 I was stationed at RAF Wellesbourne doing a course in Photography, it wasn't far from where I lived so I could go home often. When I got married our first house was a new one built on part of the airfield near the cricket pitch.
Thank you for bringing back so many good memories,
Nice photos all--the last three are dramatic.

I was stationed at Hickam AFB from 1965 to 1968. I worked in the Military Pay Dept of the Accounting and Finance Office. I prepared your paycheck - and thousands of others. Well, not my myself. There were a bunch of us, both military and civilian. If yours was screwed up the statute of limitations has past. Sorry.
You're welcome.
Very good series of an amazing aircraft, Ibenger, back in the early 80s they had one from Canada at an air show at Ellington AFB in Houston, Texas. A friend of mine was invited by one of the pilots, that he met the
day before in some sort of gathering, to come to the airshow and he would give him a walk through, my friend invited me to go with him. We got to the airshow, the pilot remembered my friend and he took us into
the Vulcan, talk about cramped quarters, WOW. After that we watched it take off and it went almost straight up for a few thousand feet before leveling off and did a few flybys. Another amazing thing was how fast
the bombay doors opened and closed, a great experience that I will never forget.

When I was stationed at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam in the mid-sixties, there was a RAF detachment also assigned there. They flew the Vulcans. I loved watching them take off.

Another thing I like on this site.
Hello, Stash, Bill. I was on and off Anderson numerous times then. TDY's.
No one else wanted them. Oh, for a camera then.

PS. I have a book called 'Glimpses of Guam, 1967.
I would be glad to send it on loan. It is a bit of travel guide but geared to military.
