Catching up on processing summer's hummer captures.
This was taken with the A7R3 and 100-400 GM lens. As some of you know, I traded up to the A7R4.
When a new model is released the prior model does NOT become less capable.
Is that the correct shutter speed? To stop wing action at that slow of shutter speed is amazing!

Yes it is. I used a Godox 685 flash with a Harbor Freight Digital flash extender. The extender is similar to a Better Beamer and works about the same, although I modified my copy by lining it with silver foil.

The bird has been bathed in so much speedlite its natural color is gone, including the tail-feather tips.

Digital is part of the supplier's name. The extender is just a Fresnel lens positioned in front of the flash head.
It focuses the flash beam more narrowly concentrating the light and extending its range. If the extra range is not needed the power can be dialed down reducing the recycle time.
A 300mm focal length lens or equivalent is needed for the flash to cover the entire frame.
Here is what it looks like from inside my blind. Taken with my phone camera.

Yes indeed...gone with the dull and in with the color. Except for the dark background not much different than bright Sun when reflected at the right angle.
