Need help, Seagate backup and PS

If anyone can help I would be very grateful. When I upload my photos to LR I store them on a Seagate 8tb disk, my disk is full on the Mac, now I keep getting the 'photos cant be found' message for a recent import. I have tried pointing and locating in finder etc but my backup disk I can't seem to find.

I looked it all up on the internet and it says there is sometimes a problem locating files between Mac and Seagate, I am a real techniphobe and very frustrated as I am afraid to upload any more files. If anyone can help I really need clear easy to understand help.

Also I updated my Mac recently as had a message from Apple to update, which I have done, now I cant open PS at all, what a mess. Thank you in advance.

I am not a Mac user, but I have followed with interest the problems with Catalina. The short of it is Apple decided that to not support legacy 32 bit programs. Tim Cook has now admitted this was a huge mistake. Google “Mac OS - Catalina” to read about it. It looks like Mac users are pretty well screwed until developers write upgrades to 64 bit.

Considering that the Seagate drive is not new it probably needs to have its program updated. WD send me update messages to update the programs for my external drives and I am not having that problem. Also Adobe won't update their installer programs to 64 bit so you are probably out of luck with PS unless you clean your Macs drive. Even then it might not work. Although if you pay the monthly ransom PS might work.

First, back out of the Apple update to Catalina. Use a backup that was recently made. After that you can deal with the disk issues. My disks show up on my Apple finder and I can check them to see if they are full or not: click on the disk in finder and the GB available will show up. Also, in LR, there is a way to watch how full your disks get prior to them filling up. You may need to manually rearrange some number of images, moving them from one disk to a new disk, then reconnect/relink them in LR. That is the only way I can think of to fix the problem but perhaps some "techie" will have other advice. In future do watch the disks as it seems that attempting to download onto a full drive simply messes with the computer system.

Thank you so much, I have deleted so much from my LR and have been using the Seagate to store my photos, LR can't locate the seagate drive to enable me to point to the seagate from LR so I can't open any images. My PS has stopped working altogether. I will do as you suggest and go back on Time Machine and restore an earlier problem, this may help and thank you for yours. It is very much appreciated. I will also check how much space I have on the disk.

One way to "hook up" a drive to LR, if you don't know how to find it otherwise, is to create a new folder, then navigate to the disk of your choice. The new folder will show up on the left side in folders. You can then drag and drop as needed from within LR and this, too, may be an option for you. You can delete the new, empty folder or use it, too.

There are many of us that chose to pay the monthly subscription service fee to Adobe and don't consider it a "ransom". Stop bashing Adobe for making a business choice which you are free to either participate or not.

I still use High Sierra and it works just fine. A friend who is very Mac savvy said to stick with what I have until it will no longer handle programs because it is 32 bit limited. I think I will wait a long time before touching Catalina. Maybe Mojave would her a good move.
