PS Elements and Epson V600 versus new Mac OS
I just upgraded to Mac's Catalina 64-bit Operating System and although it runs fine, my trusty old PS Elements 11 (I know; it's so old Ansel Adams probably used it) no longer works nor does my Epson V600 scanner.
Adobe's on-line support said there's no upgrade to allow Elements 11 to work with Catalina.
Epson's support site says "Please note, at this time, the drivers for Mac OS 10.15.x do not support the Digital ICE functions of the V550 or V600 scanners." However, the site identified my OS as 10.15 (Catalina) and offers 2 drivers and 4 utilities downloads.
Does anyone know if downloading the 6 programs will allow the scanner to work? I don't use the ICE technology (too slow) so I don't think that matters.
Thanks, all.
You probably need to be the guinea pig for the community on this cutting edge technology.
Pioneers are the ones with arrows in their back!
I don't have and never had a Mac. What is the appeal of Catalina? What does it do better than before?
I've read that a large number of older scanners have been orphaned by Catalina. One solution is to buy Vuescan which will operate your V600 and any other legacy scanner. The good part is you will never have to learn any other scanning software again as it is continually updated to operate any new scanner models.

Another solution for other readers, is to wait before adopting Catalina to your OS which is what my IT guys suggested for me...
Cheers!

Which is exactly what I'm doing!
Yeah I probably should have waited but I thought Catalina might provide a little more security and I've never had an ounce of trouble with the other two upgrades I installed over the past three years. In spite of this glitch, I still find my iMac far, far more trouble-free than I ever had with a PC and Windows.
Catalina is a major change since it supports only 64bit software while versions of the operating system supported 64 and 32 bit software. That is a biggie if you use any older software which is not being actively supported.
Best way to find out. Download them and see.

The new EPSON Scan is awful. It does about 1/3 of what the 32-bit version did. I’m keeping one Mac on High Sierra just to run my scanner. Give them time to catch up.
The Epson V600 Photo scanner uses 32bit drivers. That is why the scanner won't work. Vuescan software will only help if you use the companies (Hamrick Software) reverse engineered drivers that are 64bit. I also agree with burkphoto's opinion of Epson's new software, it sucks. The new Epson drivers are designed to work with their 700 & 800 series scanners. I currently use Vuescan on Mojave and plan to wait a few months until things settle down before upgrading. I am guessing it will be a great way clean out old/unwanted software that Go64 has identified.
Hi there Fourlocks. Same thing with me. I downloaded every driver ,utility. I tried the SilverFast 8 & Vue something...It is just NOT the same as Digital Ice. I lost my elements, photoshop, other apps & pretty mad at myself for upgrading to damn Catalina. I would love to revert back to Mojave & I just may just to have my ICE, but you know you have to keep up with technology which means keeping up with Mac OS, and another one due out this Sept-2020.it's a real piss off, I found the Epsons software the Digital Ice feature user friendly quick & I am trying to start up a home business of scanning slides & photos. If there was another scanner with Ice technology,64 bit, I'd buy it (but why should we eh) My mac is 2013,my Epson a few years. It's very upsetting isn't it.
I have a PC and a MacBook Pro. I got the V600 because it was within my budget. This new MacBook Pro uses USB-C for everything, so I was using my gaming PC for scanning and it was great. Loved Digital Ice. The Epson software was a bit out of date, but it was workable. It's horrible on the Mac and I'm assuming it has Catalina on it. I often have to close the software, and disconnect the scanner, because the software doesn't even have the option for the transparency tray all the time. I was also going crazy wondering why the Digital Ice feature was gone. Now I know. It's disappointing and upsetting because I prefer using the Mac, since my PC needs upgrading and runs slow. Which I just might have to end up doing because I do not like the Mac version of this software.
