October is Breast Cancer awareness month. The visiting team had pink jerseys for this game.

All shot with a D500, 180mm lens, F 2.8, ISO 100 - 400, SS 1600 - 3200.

Thanks for looking any and all comments are welcome I'm always looking to improve.

My advice is to shoot in manual. Set your camera to white balance manual, either daytime, cloudy, etc. Don't trust the auto, set in yourself. Iso auto. Shutter speed for these little guys 1/2500 - 1/3200 at wide open, practice the settings before the game and see what works and what doesn't. Always shoot manual don't be afraid practice with the settings. Your shots are nice and with some different thinking will be even better. Last fill the frame with the action, this lens I'll bet you had a lot of cropping. Don't do that the more cropping and sharpening the more the pixels will suffer quality. Let the action come to you. Be in front of the plays like five yards.
You might adjust the shadows/highlights also like members have suggested.

PS These shots: 1/2500 at 5.6 iso 280- auto white balance daytime- focal length about 200mm.
Good luck.

Fascinating series Nikon2014...
Found the first epic image truly intriguing...
Love that they are wearing boxer headgear in this flag football contest...

So wonderful that youth football is now recognizing the dire and ubiquitous nature of concussions in this very popular sport. Sadly girls soccer is now a leading cause of head trauma i.e. concussions for this gender. A reality that hits home for me since I primarily shoot girls league soccer... and action on the pitch can be (and often is) brutal... I will mention that FIFA Rule 12 is now being VERY strictly enforced in the league I work where Yellow and Red Cards are far more frequent now than in the past... Which also seems to have reduced the number ambulance runs...

btw, my compliments on your choice of the iconic 180mm f/2.8D here... If I could only have one lens to cover portraiture; fashion and sports it would be this vintage optic... love it dearly...

Thanks so much for sharing... you did a wonderful job with your technique... especially the last image of this trio where you're literately down on the deck thus adding an element of towering grandeur to these feisty little champions... So charismatic! so superbly done...

Final thoughts: I noticed you were at 1/3200 on the first capture... which certainly tamed subject motion blur... I'm currently disappointed with my soccer efforts at 1/2000, which sadly isn't eliminated motion blue in a kicker's foot... To this end I'm now going to shoot at 1/3200 minimum thanks to your kindness in sharing and to many others here from which I've gleaned a wealth of wisdom...

"Why does the ref give a yellow or red card?"

Jules, straight from FIFA
It's a good read...
https://www.fifa.com/mm/document/afdeveloping/refereeing/law_12_fouls_misconduct_en_47379.pdf
If you are focused on shooting soccer you will likely benefit from understanding what is contained in these 81 pages...

Hope this helps of is at least food for though...
