Reputedly gold was discovered here by someone in Custer's military unit. A wild gold rush developed and the town grew up with a reputation for lawlessness. Among the more legendary characters of Deadwood were Wild Bill Hickok (shot in the back during a poker game) and Calamity Jane. Among those eventually taming the place was Ontarian Seth Bullock. The Homestake Mine became the biggest and deepest in USA and if my math is correct, over its lifetime, it produced almost 275,000 tons of gold - figure that at 2019 prices!

Thank you for your reply, Kaskazi, very interesting

We went diving yesterday at Farnsworth Bank, a series of offshore pinnacles on the backside of Catalina Island. The rocks are covers by sponges, tunicates, and, of course, purple hydrocoral.

Lovely change of scene! Thanks for sharing these fine images.

Gorgeous images of Gorgeous Oldies for sure, but where's the gold? (e.g. McLaren F1 had 16 grams of gold in its engine compartment as a heat reflector - other supercars too).

1. Ground was very dry with lack of rain.
2. Internet says large earthworms can do about 240 feet/hour. These guys were supersonic compared to that.

They were all over my yard. I've seen worms lots of time in my life but this was a first for me.
