Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Usually more expensive than Software Acquisition Syndrome (SAS).

Oh yeah. I caught that real bad some years ago. Thanks. You have a very simple way of explaining things and answering questions. You're a great help to everyone. Thanks.

If you hear a voice saying, 'Your photography will get better with a better camera,' that's GAS ....

Thank you! No one can compete with our resident philosopher and wit, Chg_Canon, however. And who would want to be associated with the bullies and trolls who are here solely to cause mayhem. And lastly, not many people will read more than a two-paragraph reply anyway

Looking through your posts, I think you are suffering from S.A.G.* rather than G.A.S.

* "Sell All Gear" syndrome.

Or, "his camera lasted longer than he did."

I see GAS as the lust after equipment, generally the latest and greatest stuff, but for some of us old film guys, it may involve acquiring a camera or lens that we lusted after in our misspent utes. There are many subsets, such as wanting to get a "complete" set or outfit, or believing that you need something to do a type of photography that is just a passing fancy and you will never seriously take up.

I do love gear - especially old gear. I use almost every piece of kit I have, and take real physical pleasure in squeezing the shutter button on a Leica or hearing the satisfying combination of thump-fthpp-clack when I take a shot with my Hasselblad. Lusting after gear is common in almost all hobbies, but when it becomes more consuming than the hobby itself, it's taking you down the wrong path IMHO.

Gear won't make you a better photographer, as ChgCanon so often points out, but some stuff is more intrinsically pleasing to use than other stuff. That's just a part of reality. Just don't make it the only reality.

I thought it was, the one who dies with the most cameras, wins. Lots of people can have the best camera.
