What about cropping that wooden structure (a door?) to the left? It will make for a better portrait.

Good shot.
We owned a pug who looked very much like Wilma.
Her name was Zelda.

Cropping more would cut out the main subject.

Got to agree with camerapapi - the dog is the subject, not the other object. It adds nothing to the "story" and if you hold a card over that "object" the image is enhanced hugely. Anyway... very nice shot.

She's a beautiful girl. Please give a scratch from me and Bailey, too.

I don’t know how to explain this any clearer than I have. In order to crop out the door I would have to loose over half of the Dog. I know what the subject of the picture is. Have a nice day.

Sometimes its not a "portrait" but merely a picture of one of our pets, or animal companion if you prefer. I suspect that if you wanted to make a "portrait" of Wilma, you were perfectly capable of doing so. Here it looks like you grabbed a quick image of the old gal with her tongue out. This is the sort of image that will speak to our hearts and memories long after the animal is no longer with us. And I guess that if you didn't want the door frame to show, you could always use a frame and a mat. I think what you are doing to give old Wilma a loving home says a lot more about you as a person than what not cropping out a door frame says about you as a photographer.

Sometimes its not a "portrait" but merel... (show quote)

Thanks , it was a fast shot and I did crop it. Thanks for understanding.

That doesn't make sense. Dog is on right. Object is on left. The two aren't remotely connected and thus easily parted so how can you "lose" over half the dog?
