TV with Wifi?

I have Roku--you just need a god wifi signal. Tons of offerings and other providers such as Amazon Prime (if you already have that) are free. I dumped satellite tv and haven’t looked back. I also have an antenna, so if the wifi goes out, I can still watch all the network offerings.

I subscribe and stream from Netlix, Hulu, Vudu and Amazon prime thru a Sony blue ray player.
But now I have to stream Hulu thru an X-Box game console, since Disney bought Hulu and won't let the Sony player do it anymore.
I watch very little network TV anymore.
Can't stand most of the drivel they broadcast on there. Especially the so called reality shows.

My older HDTV does not have that capability. However, my new and inexpensive Blu-ray player does have that feature and as others noted, it sought out my computer's WiFi and runs anything from my computer, through the TV. I simply have to turn the Blu-ray player on and select the proper icon. Yes, you have to have a subscription to the service and my Son-in-law included me as one of his Netflix channels (even though we live miles apart) and I have other services like YouTube which is free.

If you’re into Apple devices, you can also hook up an Apple TV (hockey puck like Roku, I use both) and mirror your iPhone/iPad on your TV.

Here on Long Island, NY I have <Grrrr> Optimum everything. In Florida, I use Roku, Amazon FireStick Tv, and an old Apple TV my son gave to me. I’m buying another, newer, Apple TV when we go to FL. I also have a couple of HD Antennas in FL. All have their pluses and minuses and are too confusing for my wife too use because she wants to use the TV like we do here in NY.

In any event, I like Apple TV the best because I stream from TV apps on my iPhone X & 6S, my iPad, or an older 5S which I leave in FL just for that purpose. We are in the Boynton Beach area and the HD antennas make CBS NBC ABC & Fox pop in and out occasionally. Need a better solution.

Oh Linda, thanks for bringing back the memories from my younger days that made me smile. I use to watch the Japanese "monster movies" and "martial art movies" and the words were never in sync with the movement of their mouth. At times the voice-over would stop but their mouth would still be moving!

By the way, why would anyone want to live in Japan with all of those gigantic monsters destroying the cities all the time?

I have two so-called Smart TVs and a couple of non-Smart TV's with a Roku stick. The older non-smart TV's are much more user-friendly.
That is because you're used to a tv being a tv, going back many decades I assume One "issue" with smart tv's might be that each app has its own look and navigation system. Though I only subscribe to You-Tube TV, I discovered that how it works on the television is slightly different (and has a different view) than when I access via a computer.

Each platform, whether it be Roku or Fire Stick or smart TV..... each is unique to that device. Consequently, the user interface is almost often different. Effective this month, Amazon Prime won't work with Sony Blu-Ray players but will work on their smart TVs. Go figure.....

Amazon prime is still working on my Sony blu-ray player. Just watched a movie on it.
Hulu does not work on the Sony blu-ray player any more since Disney bought it.

Here's what I see on any of my 3 Sony BR players when I select Amazon "Prime Video." Lack of support for these devices was announced via a notice from Amazon in late July. Consider yourself lucky!!

Thanks Linda. I don't have a Roku TV but the article leads me to think I can add OTA channels to the Roku interface with a bit more hardware. I'll call into my local Best Buy and see what they do for me.

Are you looking for a way to record? If not, have you tried an antenna for your local stations? My $23 antenna from amazon (which sticks to the wall and looks like an oversized mouse pad ) works great for simple viewing of local.

We have an Apple TV unit that drags in the signal over our optical fiber service. Of course, we need to have an account with a Hulu-type service.

Hmm, maybe it might be that my Sony blu-ray player is an older model?
I have had it for about 2-3 years.
I don't get that message, it goes right to the Amazon prime video home screen when I click on the Amazon Icon.
