I was looking on Amazon, at the 18-140 nikon lens. Renewed at $255.00. Is this another name for refurbished?
Wouldn't take a chance - have been watching the same lens - try Roberts Camera Used Photo Pro - have bought a lot from them. Condition always better than described, and satisfaction guaranteed. They had several when I looked earlier in the week.

I looked at the Amazon listing - Sounds like maybe "seller" refurbished as opposed to Nikon refurbished....my interpretation (I would try to ask the seller, best way to know). It does come with a warranty, 90 days from Amazon...and by the end of that period you will know whether it is good or bad. Any "Nikkon Refurbs" I have bought were no different than new out-of-the-box (Nikon Gold Box) even though they came in a white box,. they look, smell, feel and act like new, and I had no faults/failures, nor performance complaints.
My $.02
Thank you both. I just took a good long look at my bank balance and decided that I'll have to wait till next month.

Other than E-bay (an experience which can be great to poor - many variables) & the Big Box stores, BB/Costco/Amazon/Walmart etc. etc.... Sounds like you'd like a quality purchase, some sort of viable warranty, and a great price, I dig that! Take a good long walk through the listings at KEH, MPB.com, UsedPhotoPro(Roberts), all offer good warranty/return policies, and have very good grading systems, stand behind the sale.
And, don't forget B&H, Adorama, Cameta, Hunt's, Samy's and a few others all have good used, and MFG. Refurbed, warranties vary a bit, but all are quality vendors. Almost forgot - Nikon's website, same sort of deals there too. I have bought from every venue I have listed with the exception of Hunt's and Samy's (where others on UHH have reported good purchases). Good luck in your effort, and have fun!!
I completely understand the "bank balance" part of the deal... I have built two vary large collections of Nikon DSLR and Sony A-mount DSLR "searching for the best deals" due to a retired limited income situation. I buy/sell/repair/trade my way up in a continous cycle. If I had bought every camera body and lens (I own) new, would probably be supporting a second mortgage in terms of cost. Have I bought a few "stinkers", sure, I'd be the first to admit not every purchase, or every repair has come out "gold", but the wins have greatly overcome any bad purchases over the last few years. A big plus, is I now can tell by looks and description as to what can be economically repaired versus money pit, etc. (especially repaired by me, and I'm a damn good technician, but there are certain products that require equipment I simply do not have access to, or could afford).

Thank you. I'll most likely go the used route or refurb. Heading to the Nikon website right now
Checked out the Nikon website. I'll most likely go with them.
That old adage, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is, applies here as well.

"RENEWED" is Amazons own term for their products that have been returned and "checked out" by their non-camera service techs. Amazon does put a 90 warranty on these products. Don't expect and original packaging or warranty cards to come with them. I personally would buy that lens long before I considered a similarly priced grey market lens from them.

Not sure about this lens you mentioned, but I own a Nikon 18-140mm 3.5-5.6 lens and am very satisfied with the images I have captured with this Nikon lens.

When it says "renewed" instead of "refurbished" I suspect a language issue, and therefore a source that is probably questionable. Kind of like the calls you get trying to convince you that the IRS is about to arrest you!
I also have an 18-140mm and it performs wonderfully.
It sounds like someone is either not familiar with the correct terminology or is trying to pull a fast one. You want "Factory Refurbished."
