When Ed Stack, CEO of the Dick’s Sporting Goods chain, found out his company sold a gun to the Parkland, Florida, school shooter, he decided he was done being in business of selling assault rifles and high-capacity magazines, he said on CBS Sunday Morning.

Stack did not just pull assault rifles from shelves at his more than 700 stores — he destroyed the entire inventory and turned it into scrap metal, he writes in his new book, CNBC reports.

The company could have resold the guns to another retailer or returned them to the manufacturer, but it didn’t, Stack said, according to CBS. “I said, ‘You know what? If we really think these things should be off the street, we need to destroy them,’” Stack told CBS.

The cost - 5M$.

A semi-automatic rifle is NOT an "assault rifle," regardless of what the main-stream media want to call it. Now, back to photography.

It's time to short Dick's Sporting Goods stock. They've lost a lot more than $5 million. I know a lot of sportsmen that refuse to buy there now.

But he DID do something to control it, and THAT is the point. Not whether you believe in ANY level of gun regulations (such as the limits on fully automatic weapons) - we can all respectfully agree/disagree about that. The point is that he didn’t just TALK about his convictions (as we are doing), he actually DID something, regardless of the personal cost, and I, for one, think that is worthy of posting.

As I’m sure you know, he is not alone - multiple major chains are no longer selling these weapons (Wallmart is no longer selling ammunition for them), Colt is no longer selling the AR series to other than military and law enforcement, and Remington firearms is in bankruptcy. The writing is on the wall... I don’t take any joy in seeing venerable old firearm manufacturers in trouble - I have a Browning B22, a Colt .380 Govt. Pocketlite, A Kimber .45 and a Remington 870.

Hmmmm.

Maybe we all should combat rapists in a similar fashion.

I don’t disagree (I carried both an M16 and an M14 in VietNam) and the “style” of the rifle doesn’t bother me (nor do folding stocks or flash suppressors) but 30-100 shot magazines and bump stocks? Why not just go ahead and make se*****r levers, Thompsons and grenades legal and available at your local store? Should there be ANY regulations on the weapons or who can purchase? Are we completely powerless to do ANYTHING to prevent mass civilian carnage?

No we are not powerless. We can v**e. It may require some to v**e against their traditional red or blue candidate. If you want change you have to pick the candidate that has like minded views to your own and v**e for them, no matter what "party" they belong to.

This is a bold statement that should tell all of us what Ed Stack feels about guns and gun violence.
Let's be extremely careful because this decision will polarize all of us. So, I'm going to keep my point simple. Please agree with it or don't. But, please don't explain your rational here.

A short while ago, I posted a similar opinion on the mighty Ugly Hedge Hog. It was not intended to offend anyone. I was sadly mistaken.

The Administrators did not like my comments and my reasoning. "Instead, they grabbed me by my heels and d**gged me up the stairs to The Attic banging my head on each one along the way. All eighteen stairs each left a smarting bump on the back of my head." I'm just kidding but their decision did hurt.

Now there are some companies, like Cross Pens that will turn illegal guns into pens with the serial number remaining. I did type "illegal."

Many people will probably not purchase camping and sporting goods at Dick's Sporting Goods. As for me, I purchase my camping equipment at various stores. Now, I will shift my purchases to Dick's. Simply because Ed Stack made a decision to appeal to his moral compass. I don't know if other Hoggers can say and do the same.

Let's applaud a person who want's to make a difference.

It is your opinion to own and possess firearms. I don't. I will support your decision and will respect it!

I'm only the occasional fisherman and had never shopped there previously since the nearest outlet is out-of-my-way. But now Dick's Sporting Goods is my exclusive source for fishing supplies. He get's all my business.
