I'll lead with this is not my regular thing.
More of a "Your uncle has a camera, see if he will take some pictures for you."

D5500, 70-200mm 2.8
EXIF on photos
Heavy overcast

Exposure aside.. That is something to work on especially with multiple skin types and the variety of clothing colors.
I feel a lot of them ended up looking "Soft" is the best word, like the focus was just not quite there.

Really appreciate any and all comments, suggestions as this might come up again.

Thank you

As you said there is some softness but they are still good shots based on subjects expectations. Next time make sure the guys do not have their hands in their pockets.
Like the poses.

Good looking kids! The middle image reports 1/40 at f/2.8, ISO 100, 120mm. The lens is a VC-enabled Tamron. But, it seems like there's movement of subject or the camera. Was the VC active for this shot? Did you consider using a faster shutter, even just up to 1/100? Did you place an AF point specifically on the boy's eyes, for this pose? These are things to consider the next time you get the kids together.

Thank you, I think this is a me problem.
I've gotten used to shooting sports where my average shutter is 1200+.
And when I do nature shots this slow or slower I'm usually trying to soften moving water.

I may have just been overcompensating for the heavy overcast.

Thanks again

Thank you.

I actually had them put hands in pockets to cover "phone squares"

Wet conditions. And only had one mom to hold coats and keys so forgot about the phones initially.

Learning curve thing.. Bring a mule ;)
