Has anyone used Costco or Legacybox to transfer 35mm slides to DVD?
Comments, complaints, suggestions?
I have a transfer device, but there are too many to do. Sending them out makes more sense.
Thanks
Do you have an Epson scanner specifically for this?

MY two cents. Most outfits that do transfers may be doing them at the lowest DPI. Looking on HDTV, images may not have the sharpness of the original. Make sure they scan at least 7200 dpi. Here is a link.

I have a Vupoint scanner. Using it was tedious.....
Good point on the dpi resolution, I will check with the vendors...
I have the PrimeFilm XE Super Edition. If you want complete control, and don’t mind the hassle of 1 slide at a time. I highly recommend this scanner. I had an epson scanner, but prefer this dedicated scanner over the flatbed.
I currently use a Brother all in one color laser for scanning photos, etc. It’s very good, but not meant for slides.
I have an Epson V600 scanner. Not very expensive and it will do 4 slides at a time. But the best thing is that the software is VERY good at removing dust and scratches so the quality of the results is very good. I would bet the savings over letting a vendor do them would pay for the scanner.
I use an older Minolta Dimage Scan Multi Pro scanner that takes film of many sizes up to 220, 645, etc., color negatives and positives, and mounted slides, plus digital ICE, ROC & GEM. Almost as many image correction options as Photoshop!
Only drawback to the Minolta is the computer connection is SCSI (no longer supported in new computers) so I maintain an older Windows XP system to operate it. The resolution available is almost equivalent to slides themselves.
Take a look at Scan Cafe. They transferred hundreds of pictures for me at a reasonable price. I have a perfectly good Epson scanner, but did not want to take the many hours it would have taken to do it myself. I was pleased with the results from Scan Cafe. You do not have to pay for results you are not satisfied with.
I too used an older Minolta Dimage Scan Multi Pro scanner and scanned in all of my slides and negative into my Windows XP computer before I got rid of it. Glad I did because the scanner is not compatible with any newer computer.
I have used Costco in the past and was satisfied with what I got back. You get JPG's which is OK and can be worked in PS. I also sent several hundred to DIGMYPICS and was very satisfied. I used them because I wanted the scans in a lossless format. (TIF).
One advantage is that you get the ability to look at the results before you accept them. I was very satisfied with the results.
Good luck
i have used cost to scan some old prints and couple hundred slides and a number of old video tapes and was quite satisfied.
