Had the opportunity last weekend to shoot some more hockey photos. Went with shutter speed of 1/800 the first 2 games, then tried 1/1000 for the last. All with my Nikon D7200 with Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 D AF ED lens, shooting wide open. ISO was at 6400. Had to boost the exposure on the 1/1000 a bit more in Lightroom, but I don't see a large difference in the noise.

I've got the ISO fixed at 6400. I'm using single-point auto-focus, generally with the focus point at top-center so that I can focus on the face and get the body included below. Maybe the rink you're at is much brighter? I shot some a few weeks ago at 1/500 ISO 4000, and most of the advice I received was to go to a higher shutter speed.
Just looked at you photos... very nice action. I imagine the college rinks are lit much better than the rinks where my grandson is playing. His previous team sometimes played where the local AHL team plays, and it is lit with television in mind, and is very much brighter than the public rinks.
