Interesting shot, they all look pretty serious. Can you tell us more about the game?

It's a very popular street game played in nearly every French village or town known as "Boule" or "Petanque"
It can be played on any piece of gravel as seen in the photograph, it is be played with 2-4 players, each one has two steel balls (boule) each weighing upto 2.5 lbs. The first person throws a small wooden jack and the others in turn have to get near to this jack as possible by fair means or foul. The rules are quite complicated and can be hard work throwing the heavy balls for several hours.

It is the same, Bocce is the Italian version.

Thank’s for confirming. I’m sure there are some rule differences but it’s basically who gets the big ball closest to the little ball😊

Nice concept but you need a “gesture” perhaps the bowler setting up for the shot or the moment of release or what H. C. Bresson referred to as the “decisive moment”.

You sound like ALL of my Photo Professors!
Probably solved by a gesture/moment suggested above. But this had me guessing that it was a game, but with everybody watching and nobody playing. The challenge is to recognize such a nice scene, and then WAIT for the moment to photograph.
