Following conversation about the best way to hike while carrying a 600mm f4 lens, I headed to the local thrift store in hopes of finding a golf caddy.
No joy in that department, but came across a Ion Audio slide scanner. Just dropped off the other day, priced at $7, but got it for $6 with the senior discount.
I doubt it’s the best, but for that price the worst that can happen is I waste a little time.
In box, with all parts and software, most still in original packaging.
But...I also put some pipe insulation on the tripod legs as a cushion. Total out of pocket: $8.
Let us know how it works.

Worth everything I paid for it. Setup was just above amateur, but whatever.
Never had one of these before, so don’t fully know what to expect. Scans are quick, and reasonably sharp for such low resolution, however are typically underexposed and have a blue cast. This all should be relatively easy to fix in LR. A typical scan is between 350k and 1.3M. Software date is 2011.
The worst part was that it took 2 hours to find the slides, and I think there are still a bunch missing. Since I can pinpoint the years, I’m hoping they are together somewhere in the house...ideally in protective sleeves in a binder.
