On assignment UPI Boston bureau Oct. 1, 1979. Cover photo tight crop shows Pope John Paul ll, knelling to kiss the ground, that was the key shot in the making to get. w/Nikon F3 & Nikkor 600mm f5.6 at f5.6. Opening cover page one, shows my inside cover page two, the Pope & Rosalynn Carter . . .

Photo two shows Pope John Paul ll and Roslynn Carter (President Jimmy Carter's wife). w/Nikon FTN & Nikkor 1000mm f11 lens. All photos made with Kodax TRI-X 400 ASA 35mm b&w film pushed 1-stop.

I had a prime position at Logan Airport Boston on the roof-top with my competitor, Jim McNight covering for AP New York. Below on the ground was a red carpet with a small grandstand 150 press members!

Pope John Paul II was an inspiring man. That is one of many photographs I wish I had taken back in the days. I loved using Ilford HP5 and TriX 400 films. They were my go to films back then. Also love T400CN film too. Congratulations for the Most Excellent Capture! Thanks for sharing a piece of the past.

Happy Shooting!

Nice, to have a moment in history in your portfolio. In today's world you would have been taken out by a Secret Service Sniper.

Nice shots. Shot many a roll of Tri X. Miss those days when before photoshop when you shot the photos
and took them to the darkroom yourself.

Have been shooting for 50 years for a horse magazine. Used to proudly put "Unretouched Photo" on many images. That is a thing of the past these days.

Shoot about everything with D5 and 2.8 70-200. And don't alter them much.

Again, thanks for the shots. I sure do UPI and AP photographers and newspapers.

Live out in the country and used to drive 50 miles round trip to get a Sunday paper. Not worth
the trip any more. Sad.

Welcome, Track-Mag! I too, have been shooting more than 50 years. Started in Vietnam 1968 . . . lot more advantages with digital these days. Hard to believe Eastman Kodak is out of business because of the BIG success of digital photography. I shoot with micro 4/3rds Olympus & 15 lenses 4 with LEICA endorsement, Killer Lenses . . . ! AP
