Taken at Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park. Is there anything like Merlin for the PC? I was unsuccessful in my searches.

Cornell would do the photographic community a great service by offering a PC/Mac version of Merlin. We’re the ones that don’t get around to identifying the bird until we process the image (“shoot first and ask questions later”). I find that I have to take an iPhone picture of my monitor screen to get a photo ID from Merlin, which is nuts.

I did a little searching, it is not one of the most common birds of the area. Hard to tell with out knowing size of the bird. Might it be a Gray Jay (AKA Canada Jay)?

Gray or Canada Jay, Image from the WEB.

How true. I do not have a cell phone, so I can't even use your method. I have enough trouble with a full size keyboard and also a hand-set of a land line.

Thanks, I think you have found the correct answer. There were a few of them in the area and none would sit still for more than a few seconds.

Thanks, but I can only take credit (or blame) for the pic in the OP. It is a heavily cropped grab shot. The birds would not sit still for more than a few seconds.
