Has anybody found a reasonably priced (ie <$40) Arco style quick release L bracket for a A7Riii. There was a cut-out on the back part of the plate that left nothing for the QR grip to hold onto. I have a bracket for an A7Rii but it won''t allow access to the multi-port for a corded remote.

A simple solution would be to switch the side where you want to locate L so you have access to the terminals. Another option would be to attach your L bracket in such a way that you have access to the terminals.

I went to the link you provided and saw your L-bracket. Are you referring to where the upper portion of the Arca-Swiss dovetail is cut away (left arrow) as opposed the where the upper and lower portions of the dovetail are still there (right arrow)? Only the lower portion of the dovetail is needed. That's where the clamp grips the dovetail. The upper portion of the dovetail doesn't contact anything.

I know this because I made my own Arca-Swiss plate in a machine shop. I'm a machinist and made my plate according to the Really Right Stuff diagram for their Arca-Swiss plate.

The clamp grips on the lower portion of the dovetail. The upper portion of the dovetail is not needed.

Hi CO. Yes that looks like the L bracket I had. The problem was the way the back of the vertical leg was cut away (left side in your pic). When I tried to put the camera in a vertical (portrait) position on the tripod, there wasn't enough dovetail for the clamp to grip onto - less than 1/4 and only at one end - recklessly unstable unless I had some sort of extra long Arca clamp. The cut out is to provide access to the two sets of connection covers on the side of the A7Riii but it renders the vertical position useless. The A7Rii L bracket I have only allows access to one of the sets of connections on the A7Riii. The whole point of an L bracket is to be able to switch from horizontal to vertical quickly and easily. Maybe I need a bracket that leaves space between the side of the camera and the vertical leg but I think that won't be as stable.

I think you are suggesting putting the bracket on back to front. That might work - sort of - but then I wouldn't have access to the battery compartment. That might be OK if it is the best I can do, but I am hoping to find a bracket specific to the A7Riii that allows access to battery and the connection ports. Thanks for the suggestion.

Whenever I have ordered an 'L' bracket, I say which camera model it is intended for. Always been happy with my purchases.

I see what you mean now. They shouldn't have cut away such a large section there. They should have tested it in a variety of Arca-Swiss clamps to make sure it would work in all of them.

The one I got was supposed to be specifically for the A7Riii. It is even stamped A7Riii right on the unit. Didn't work. Sent it back and got refund.

I have a Kirk L-bracket that has a large opening through the vertical section. I see that they make it for the Sony A7 III also. The multi-port cable might be able to go through the opening. I also have this Feisol universal L-bracket that I use with two cameras.

I bit the bullet and went with the RRS bracket for my A7Riii and very happy with it. Very well designed and fit is perfect. Looks like part of the camera body. It is an expensive piece of hardware but worth every $.

I use one from sunwayphoto, allows access to all ports (near as I can tell anyway).
At $60.00 it’s a little pricier than your target, but it works great.
