Hello! I’m going out tonight to take advantage of the new moon and try and get my first Milky Way photo. The issue is that I don’t know how I’ll know if I am getting good photos because all I’ve seen are edited shots (even when I googled it’s all advice on editing).
Would anyone share their pre-edited Milky Way photos with me?
Also; I’m using a tripod, PhotoPills, canon eos r, and a canon 14mm - any suggestions on settings would be welcomed as well. I think with the rule of 500 my exposure time would be around 36 seconds, but I’ll take all of the advice I can get.
Thank you!
I was just at Cherry Springs State Park in Potter County, PA (a highly touted dark site).
I took many shots trying to come up with optimal exposure. Finally settled on f/4.5, ISO 3200, 30 seconds (max time exposure for Canon T6 without going to bulb & an intervalometer). Taken with kit lens 18-55mm at 18mm. Focus is difficult, so I just kept taking pics and checking the LCD screen for focus. This is the best I got.
(There doesn't seem to be a way to include a photo here, so I'll just post it in a new item with the subject: Response to "Pre edited Milky Way photos"
Thank you!!! I’ll look for it!

I don’t think you would want to keep your shutter open for more than 20-25 seconds with a 14mm lens.
Set your focus to manual, aperture wide open, 3200 iso, 20sec Exposure.
Look and see how that works for a starting point. It works for me.
These are straight out of my camera.

Beautiful shots, hettmoe. Gives me a higher bar to aspire to.
Thank you, both. I hope that the OP gets to read my post, and that it is of some help.
