Doddy Loc: Barnard Castle-England

A couple of weeks ago, me my wife and daughter her husband and my grandson traveled to the old town of Knaresborough. It was a heritage weekend where many attractions in our area (museums/Castles/gardens etc) are open to the public free of charge. The only trouble with these weekends is that people turn out in droves, and so it's hard to get clear photos! The Castle is in ruins, being dismantled by Oliver Cromwell after the English civil war to deter any royalist troops garrisoning it again.

Lovely photographs Doddy, you are right though people do get in the way sometimes. I have stood around for ages waiting for people to move, very often other photographers!

Interesting photos and history. The garderobe is interesting. It would be awful to be the one sent to slither through the toilet when trying to break in. Lords dictated to their secretaries while sitting on the toilet.

Very Interesting and great photos of your trip too!

However, question for photo #2. My wife and a small group ventured to Rome and surrounding areas. We visited many castles in decay and the Coliseum. Many had small "square chunks" in the buildings. I inquired what they were. I was told if a building was left abandon for a period of years, it was subject to persons able to remove the "outside" of the building of its stone, marble, granite, and iron etc. To your knowledge, is this the case of the castle in photo #2?

Still, nice set and as noted, history too!

Thanks
SqBear
