Hello HH'ers,
I am going with the wife for a little R&R to Branson, MO in two weeks and hope you will all make suggestions as to where to go in the area (120 mile diameter) to photograph. We have never been there and although we may take in a show and do a walk through the town we are not glitz and glitter tourists. We are really more interested in the great outdoors and enjoyment of God's beautiful Earth. We are an older and severely out of shape couple. We like to hike but cannot handle steep inclines. We are hoping for some Fall color and are looking for flora and fauna. All help is appreciated and we look forward to all responses.

Go to School of the Ozarks and eat at the Keeting Center. There's any number of good shows. I'm sure you would enjoy an evening show.
Eureka Springs, AR is not to far away and lots of nature around there.

Be sure to go to the Top of the Rock Restaurant. It’s about a 30 minute drive but great scenery before and after sunset. There is a stunning golf course and lots more. Photo was off an earlier iPhone. In Springfield, an hour or two drive, the Bass Pro has (I think) it’s biggest store. Front has to be at leas 1/4 mile if not longer. Has huge aquariums, stuffed animals and an awesome buffet lunch. Well worth the drive.

Hi Gilkar,
There area many great photo ops within your range. Southern Missouri is a beautiful place to visit. Many lakes and clear streams. I suggest you get a guide to The Ozarks, the region not just Lake Ozarks. There are dozens of choices depending on what you want. We are currently staying at Pomme de Terre lake which is probably at your travel limit. The more undeveloped areas of Table Rock Lake are close to Branson and nice. I'll attach a couple of snapshot from my phone. Haven't downloaded from the Nikon yet.
You probably still have time to contact Missouri Department of Conservation and have them mail you some information. Ask for the Missouri outdoors map. Hope this helps.

Shepard of the Hills Inspiration Tower will give you a aerial view of Branson from it's 230 foot tall tower. With A/C and elevators, it's great for older folk but there can be a wait on busy days.

As a U.K. resident I could have spent a day or two at BASS PRO. The helicopter tour in an R22 gave a good view and compared with our prices remarkably economical. Eureka Springs seemed a bit odd ball but glad we went, and we liked Dolly's show. Enjoy.

Dogwood Canyon Nature Park is awesome. It as many waterfalls. It is about 45 minutes south of Branson. If you go be sure to take the tram ride. Part of the park is in Arkansas, but you can only get to that section on a tram.

There is a venue near Branson which contains a collection of buildings from the area's early history. Can't remember what it is called, but it has a train, flowing stream and many interesting photo opportunities. The name Reed's Spring comes up on some of my photos. There are paved walking trails so one can hike around the area. Some of it may be "touristy", but I found many places to photograph without the "tourist" stuff.

Believe you think of Silver Dollar City.

When we lived in the area I was in Dogwood Canyon several times a year. If you can bike, I recommend you rent a bike as much of the canypn is flat so walking is also ease. You will find many wonderful places to take pictures. If you take the tram you will most of them.

Here in the fall, you will see leaves on the stream with tout below.

Haven’t been for a few years, but they used to have a butterfly place in town. Lots of colorful ones flying free, so there are challenges.

Be sure and take in whatever program is happening at the Sight & Sound theater and take hundreds of pictures at the Butterfly place (just went blank on the formal name).

On the strip Highway 76, a military museum, a tractor/car museum, the navy pier fairs wheel and north of Branson is a Tiger reserve that took us 4 hrs to see. Their is a water/light show next to the river. Top of the Rock, Johny Morris's Big Cedar Lodge, Branson Belle boat ride on Table Rock Lake. Yes, Eureka Springs on Arkansas with the Great Passion Play and Christ on the Ozarks, with a great Thorn Crown Chapel. But DO NOT miss fall festival at Silver Dollar City. ENJOY!
