D7500 Battery Depletion

My wife's D7500 (9 mos. old) has been burning through batteries. She has been getting less than 300 shots per charge. I have tested her batteries in my D850 and they are fine. She does not use live view, uses single shot and I have gone through her menus to insure that there is nothing unusual turned on to use battery power. Before I send it back to Nikon, I am interested to know if any Hogs have encountered this problem.

I wonder if there is something that can be left on that depletes the battery like a dome light in an automobile. I have a Pentax K-3 and it also burns through charges on it's battery(s). 8x faster than any of my other Pentax cameras, including the K-5 that it can share batteries with. I have four of those batteries. The K-20D and K-100D each use different sorts of battery. But only my K-3 seems to be an energy hog even when shut off. I'm sure you will hear from other D7500 owners soon.

Maybe is not shutting down automatically? Being on with WiFi and GPS on?
Just trying to help by guessing

Think about some things.
- what brand of batteries is she using?
- what are the published specs (A) for those batteries?
- when (what date) did you get the batteries?
- where (source) did you get the batteries?
- what battery specs (B) does Nikon require for the D7500?
- how do the (B) specs compare to (A)?
- are the batteries returnable?
- what would one brand new battery from a reliable source (B&H or comparable) cost for testing?

Make sure airplane mode is on, i.e., wireless turned off (menu-> wrench -> Airplane Mode) . This turns off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Network (on the next screen). I'm assuming the D7500 menu is the same as my D500 menu.

I have a first model K3 and it is wonderful on battery life. Rarely ever exhaust one, unless lots of flashes and or extensive live view. Same for original and Wasabi batteries. Can't speak for the Mk 2.

We are all very happy for your wonderful battery life but that does not help solve OP’s problem.

I have a battery that always lasts until it runs out!

For the OP, the first thing I would check is WiFi being turned on in error.

Using Nikon Batteries ELN 15a brand new, as prescribed. I will try airplane mode but the factory setting and that on my D 850 is disabled.

Also, try turning down live view brightness; or, better yet, not using live view (all the time). A lens with Nikon VR image stabilization turned on all the time can suck up battery, as well; and of course the wireless mentioned above. Clean the battery contacts if you can. Also, Nikon's manual page on this: https://onlinemanual.nikonimglib.com/d7500/en/25_technical_notes_12.html

How long does the camera stay on after no action is taken. You can set that in the custom menu. Some times, if it is set for well over 1 minute it can eat through batteries.
But, she should be getting more shots than that, also, if she is constantly looking at and sorting photo's through the rear screen that can also deplete battery life.

I suggest you charge the battery, make sure Wi-Fi and GPS (if available) are turned off, and then spend a day shooting as you usually do. See how it works for you.

I reseted my 810 because I couldn’t find my errors, after this battery life is 100% better. Nikon to reset is painful, just saying....
