Today I wandered down to the drainage pond between the bypass and the mall, perhaps a mile from our home. Usually various aquatic birds are there, but today all I found was this mixed flock of ducks - no herons, no geese, no gulls, etc. I'm not sure whether migration time has come, or whether the others were spending the day at the River a couple miles away.
This photo is a result of using a 1.4TC on a lens at 300mm on an APS-C camera .... they were a long way from me, but my walking towards them seemed to cause stress and they were almost at the end of the pond, so I sat under a tree and just watched them for a while. At first I thought this was a family grouping, then I thought perhaps it was a group of adolescents, then {when I looked at this photo on the computer - remember I was a long way from them} the plumages are so varied, I'm just not sure.
Unsegregated pond. Forward thinking. A nice pic.
