HelloTechnohogs,
The Main Dial wheel (just behind the shutter button and the Multi Function Button M-Fn) has suddenly become sluggish and slightly more resistant to turning than it has ever been. It works but the question is 'for how long.' Has anyone run into this issue?
Thanks,

Complete form. https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/contactus/. Canon support is excellent.

It will only get worse. Over time, the rubber covering the wheel can stretch and loosen. A number of people have tried different ways of gluing the rubber back to the wheel with varying success. I eventually took my 7D II to Canon. The only permanent solution they could offer was to replace the top section of the camera which cost a couple of hundred dollars. I bit the bullet and did it, and now everything is back to normal.

Hello marcngolf,
Excellent suggestion and thanks. I am hesitant to send the camera away for this situation but I do realize I should attend to it sooner rather than later. I may drop by a Canon 'repair' facility in Manhattan just for an opinion but I would not leave it there for any repair. I will most likely send it to Canon. It is just a matter of when.
Thanks again,

Hi mwsilvers,
Ok then. I guess it is back to Canon. Lot of bucks for such a small problem. Just doesn't seem clever to have to do so much for something so little. Cynical me says 'clever' for their bottom line.
Thank you,

Unfortunately it appears they can't, or won't just open it up and replace the wheel. I lived with it for several months and it kept getting worse and more difficult to use. I tried some of the suggestions from others with a similar problem but I couldn't achieve satisfying results, and doing anything in such a confined space, especially using glue, was very problematic. I assume you are having the same problem. The sluggishness you describe is the rubber slipping on the wheeI, and grabbing and turning it sporadically. While it's possible you are having a different problem, this is most likely the cause. I hope you get it resolved.

Not sure where you live, but there is a Canon repair in North Jersey.

I believe the northern NJ location is for CPS members only.

You may be correct. I visited the one in Jamesburg, but it is closed.

Yep, like you, having the Jamesburg location so close was incredibly convenient. I'm about 15-20 minutes closer to it than you, and the round trip, including dropoff, didn't take much more then an hour.

Yes, I too was very disappointed when it closed.

Thanks to all,
I would have to rent a car for Northern Joisey so it would be financially impractical to do so. Probably will send it to Canon after all.

Yes, I had this problem about 2 years ago and took it to a local camera shop and they repaired it and it has worked fine ever since. I think it cost about $90.

Do you really think Canon is making millions off this repair... I would be happy you can get the repair done in today’s throw away world.

This may also be due to dirt clogging up the wheel. Any decent camera repair shop can clean it for you.
