My wife & I are taking a Mediterranean cruise next month, and will be staying in Barcelona for a couple of days. I have a Nikon D7100. Thinking of 35mm 50mm & 18-200. We’re travelling right now, and I’m a new believer in: ‘Holy cow! This stuff gets heavy when you get old”. Do you think that setup will suffice? (Also taking wife’s G1X p&s). Thanks in advance.

If it were me traveling, I'd skip the 35 and just take the 50 & 18-200.

I vote for the 18-200. Also be cautious in Barcelona. It is the thieves haven of Europe.

You will probably use the wide angle more often than the long end of the zoom. I would think your choice of lenses is adequate. When I took a 3-week cruise of the Med., I rarely, only 6-8 frames out of 460, used the the 28-300 zoom beyond its mid-range.

Thanks Buck... so I hear-we’ll probably stick to group tours as well as the other protections.

i'd drop the 50 too -- makes it a lot easier to enjoy the trip w/o having to swap lenses

Thank you: makes sense to me.

Thanks... you’re right, but my thoughts were the supposedly better images on a non-zoom for city photos.

you're not likely to notice the difference -- and the zoom is much more versatile when you don't have a lot of time, as happens on a cruise. i usually take 2 or 3 different images, zooming in or out, and sort them out later

That is what we did....had a group of 8 of us who walked together. I only carried my camera, no backpack or extra lens etc. while there. One of our travel friends decided after the cruise to stay a few days in Barcelona.....and as luck would have it had his wallet stolen after stopping for a snack. He has no idea how it was stolen after he put it back in his pants pocket.

Agree, no need for the 50, 35 & zoom only.

Just got back from Barcelona last weekend. Beautiful city. Amazing architecture. Listen to Buck1949. Everyone on board ship spoke of the crime element in the city. I had no trouble but I kept a death grip on my gear.

Sometime back I was told that the narrow streets in Europe need wide-angle lenses. He was right. I use my WA a lot when I'm over there. On your 7100, the 18-200 may not be as wide as you would like but if that is what you have, go with it.

I've spent considerable time in Barcelona--incredible city and people-- carrying too much gear. The 18-200 should be sufficient. And, as noted above, pickpockets abound, though I have never had any issues. Have a fabulous time!
