Is this a composite, or composed right out of the camera? I ask because there is a very noticeable white line/halo around her face.

Not a composite. Not sure what caused the line. There was a lot of sunlight being reflected off the road. It may be the B & W equivalent of color fringing.

There is a similar line or halo around part of the purse hanging off the lady's shoulder. I remember in pp using LR's adj brush to boost the exposure in order to bring out the texture of the purse. I did the same to the lady's face which was heavily shadowed. Quite apparently, I was sloppy with the brush.
