Cory Booker is a Rhodes Scholar - a pretty bright guy. And he is definitely right. A young black man on average spends more time in jail for marijuana possession than will a young white man for heroin possession. It is really questionable how us spending $30,000 a year keeping someone in a cage for a non-violent offense makes them better or makes our society better. That is a lot of money that could be spent on education, counseling, job training, etc.
But the example that gets me - a few years back HSBC bank, a large multinational bank, paid over $1 billion in fines to the US government for knowingly laundering money for the cartels. BUT NO ONE WENT TO JAIL! But if Demarcus in the hood has a baggie of dope he is going to do hard time. Why is that?

Not always true. B****s and w****s both smoke dope almost equally. 4x as many b****s jailed. Why? Numerous reasons but first, you do not get stopped and frisked for walking or driving while white. Happens to b****s, even black physicians frequently. If white kid does get caught, he gets a private attorney and pleas out. No jail. Black kid, has no lawyer or overworked public defender and gets a jail sentence.
Did the kids commit equal crimes... yes. Is it reflected by jail time.... no.
Just one of many reasons why more b****s in jail.
