When it's raining, or if it's been raining, rivers and waterfalls make good subjects because the volume of water will be up. If it's stormy, rocky coasts make good subjects and mountains can make good subjects as long as the cloud and mist aren't too excessive. So "bad" weather doesn't have to be a total spoiler - in fact it can give you some dramatic shots. The first two of these shots show the river Cassley in full spate, which I wouldn't have got if the weather had been drier.

That's a lovely place. I really like the second image. And thank you for leaving the water as water and not turning it into milk!

Yes, like APL, I like the water this way. The first two are quite dramatic RG - hope you weren’t risking life and limb! The third seems, in contrast, more tranquil - somewhere I’d like to see for myself. As always, you’ve processed in a very pleasant understated sort of way.

Glad you enjoyed, AzPicLady. Turbulent water is one of the situations where going for smoothness would definitely mean losing something.

Thank you magnetoman. I see I took the first two at 1/100 sec. I wish in retrospect that I'd used a slightly faster shutter speed. In #2 I was very close to some very fast flow and the fastest bits of that flow have come out a bit soft. But the light was poor and I didn't want high ISOs spoiling the shots.

I'm in no hurry to put myself in harm's way so I'm careful about where I stand to take shots. It's easy to lose balance when you're looking at a viewfinder or viewscreen, especially when what you're seeing in your peripheral vision is moving.

I like them. #1 shows the turbulent nature of the stream, and #3 is tranquil and peaceful--a nice contrast.

Thanks. #3 was taken the next day when the spate had subsided a bit.

Thank you magnetoman. I see I took the first two ... (show quote)

Was this recent RG? I was in Yorkshire, at Malham, when Swaledale got hit with torrential rain in July - the water took windows out on some of the cottages there. Absolutely devastating for some poor souls. I hadn’t realised how badly they had suffered until I visited on the following day. I thought we’d had it bad enough at Malham!

Two weeks ago. Rivers in spate isn't unusual in that part of the country. Only occasionally is it bad enough to cause damage. I sympathise with the flood victims. The damage caused by flooding is usually extensive.
