Horseshoe Bend is a beautiful place to visit as you know. Your image is outstanding !! Love the sun streaks in the image. Great work.

It looks like a beautiful place and the picture you took is, likewise beautiful.
... and this is just my opinion... but the rays of the sun do not look real. Is it... or is it digitally added?
Barry
Thanks Barry. The sun rays are very real. Even before working on the picture in lightroom the rays were very long and bright.

Hey Mike. I used a Nikon d5600 with the Nikon 10-24mm lens. I used a tripod. The focal length was 10mm and apature f16 which I think now was a mistake. I could have used f8 and got better sharpness. This is at sunset. When you reach the small lookout with railing at the end of the trail head to the right and find an open spot on the edge of the cliff. There's lots of people so go as far as you want. It's a big place.
At f:8 there is a good chance that you would have lost the starburst effect. So, f:16 probably was the right choice for this situation.

Yep. Now that I think about it f/16 was the correct aperture.

If your staying in the city of Page Arizona Horseshoe Bend is a must. I like the rafters camping at the bottom to add scale on how massive this area really is.
Great shot! The Colorado above Lake Powell ranks right up there with Antelope Canyon and the Wave in creating great natural architecture.

I did! I had a reservation for lower Antelope canyon but it was delayed 3 hrs because of a flash flood the night before. They had to shovel sand back into the canyon so people had a level walking surface. It was very crowded and hard to take good photos but it was still worth it. Just an otherworldly place. Here's a photo that I took.
Great capture, Matt! It would have been a loss to be in that part of the country and miss Antelope Canyon.

Horseshoe Bend is an awesome place!!! Lived in Arizona for 30 years. The trailhead looking down is a nice stop on the way to Antelope Canyon for more awesome picture opportunities. (make sure you go when the sun is directly overhead to catch the sun beams coming down through the crevices ;-) )
Horseshoe Bend is one of my favorite places to kayak fish and camp! We camp down on the beaches in the picture :-)
I have attached one of my pictures of Horseshoe Bend for your enjoyment. ;-)
JEEZE Matt. Will you stop!? You are making SOME of us old timers to take a step up to keep up. On the question of "correct" aperture it depends on what the photographer is looking for. There is little doubt that stopping down a bit would have produced a slightly sharper photo. But how sharp do you want or need? The smaller aperture that you used certainly made the sun look great. Surely, you didn't take just the one exposure! I would have taken one at each aperture, maybe even in between. Hey, it's digital. They're free!
