I purchased a new computer and installed my CD copy of Lightroom 5. A popup appeared saying an update to LR 5.7.1 was available but when I clicked Update it sent me to the CC version. I do not want a subscription model. I want LR 5.7.1 as was on my old PC. I tried Google and none of the answers were current. I also tried searching the Adobe site and my products are registered but I couldn't find anything about a LR update for LR 5. Can someone HELP, please.
Did you previously download and install and save the 5.7.1 update file, say on your old computer? Do you have the software serial number already registered at Adobe.com? With your serial number handy, try a 'chat' with technical support at Adobe.com. They may point you to a URL on their site to download the update file. Be sure to save the file going forward.

The LR 5.7.1 is still running on old PC . I was preparing the new PC for transfer of files. My activation key numbers for both LR3 and upgrade to LR5 are listed on the ADOBE site in my account I hate to call on the phone because most of the tech support talk way over my head and are a waste of time. As you can probably tell I am not real computer savvy. Why would hey send me a link to upgrade to 5.7.1 and have it lead nowhere?

The update process worked when the software was supported, something that hasn't been true since Dec 2014. There was no 'they' involved. The software on your PC executed as designed. The internet-based software that would have responded to that update request in 2014 has been disabled for that operation.
I suggested 'chat'. You can type back n forth. I've had success in this support option. It will help that you have the license key in your profile. Just explain what happened: you installed to a new computer from your licensed CD. The software prompted to perform an update but the download failed. You're 'chatting' to request for a link to manually download that update file. See what happens.

Thank you. I'll try that
The path of least resistance will be CC - but I am sure you are fully aware.

I may be all wet about this but I’m thinking you may need to upgrade to LR6 for a 77D. I did when I bought my 80D which came out around the same time as your 77D. At the time, I was able to upgrade for around $69 or so (I think) rather than the full price, but it was buried deep in the Adobe website and required much searching to find. Adobe may have abandoned that option since then.

Our OP didn't mention a camera type. Are you responding to another, unrelated post?

It didn't lead you nowhere. It led you to a $120/year bill.
I have LR 6.14, and I have a LR download from 2015. For LR 5, I have downloads for 5.0, 5.6, and 5.7.

Hmmm.... you’re right. I’m not sure where I came up with that.

Yes, going to 6 will just paint you another corner unless your OS is also way down level. In any case moving to 6 or CC verify you OS meets requirements.

If 5.7.1 is on your old computer check the download directory to see if you still have the update executable. If so,you might be able to copy it to your new PC and execute it.
I did a chat with adobe support last week. They were very friendly, they solved my problem. You can do a chat on computer through their web site.

My memory of trying to re-install Lr is that
many roads lead to the subscription option. As mentioned elsewhere, "The path of least resistance will be CC". What Adobe is doing is letting you know that the latest and greatest versions are available only through the subscription option. And what that means is that they're after more of your money.
My understanding is that up
grades mean a move up to a different version and have to be paid for, whereas up
dates are modifications to your existing version and are typically free. If you can find your way to Adobe's download page your licence should allow you to download and activate the highest version of Lr5, which should be the version with the latest updates to that version. Any further mention of updates by Adobe is a marketing ploy.
