I knew that title would get your attention lol. This one was a struggle in PP because of the extreme light and the haze from the waterfall plus the accompanying glare. The gully is narrow-sided and in deep shadow most of the time.

There's more than one version of the story behind the name. The most consistent versions are to do with a widow's son accidentally falling to his death and when his mother saw the body at the bottom of the falls she was overcome with grief, let out a loud wail and threw herself off the cliff. (Personally I think I would have liked it more if the name of this spot was the Laughing Widow Falls ).

Very nice shot! The naming of the falls seems totally plausible. An interesting version anyway.

Thanks. I can't imagine anybody wanting to give it a name like that unless there was an actual event behind it.

Very nice photo. I seems like a small river fed by a large Water Fall?

Thanks. It's more a stream than a river, but the flow was fairly vigorous.

Not sure - my tape measure wasn't long enough . High enough to produce the claimed fatality, I suspect. You could probably find out by Googling it.

I must admit that the "Wailing Widow" in the title caught my attention! But I would have looked at the posting anyway since I look at all the postings in the landscape section. Interesting story, I wonder what is actually true. Great job in post processing dealing with a difficult situation. Thanks for posting this which is very interesting both from the human interest and technical side of things.

What a wonderful shot, great DOF, outstanding subject and well executed PP. I took a few minutes to play with it and there are some good B&W images hidden behind that exquisite color photo.

I wonder if it was named after a newspaper headline "Wailing Widow, falls".

Thanks Curmudgeon. You're right - the tabloids would have been all over it .
