Good photos! First one is a Gulenane(not sure about spelling) and second one Anhinga, also known as a snake bird.

The first one is a Common Gallinule (aka Moorhen), recognizable by that distinctive red patch on the forehead. The second is an Anhinga. Cormorants look similar but have a hooked beak.

Thanks everybody for your comments and the education.
@UTMike - I went in August, it was VERY hot, and there were not many birds to observe so we were disappointed. Or maybe we just did not hike far enough. I hope you get to see a much bigger population in mid-September.

The best time is the March - May time when Ibis Island is a busy rookery with many newly hatched occupants.
