Earlier this year, I went to a fireworks show, or tried to, but left too late and could not get to any good places to photograph them. Then, I went to a show and shot the whole thing out of focus. That was a major mistake I had not made before photographing fireworks. So, one more chance this year, the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival. I admit, my first two shots were a bit out of focus, although not as bad as the earlier show this year, then I adjusted, and had success. The firework display was really fantastic, and for the first time, I used a 3 Stop ND, and a shutter release cable, opening and closing the shutter when I thought it was about right. Here are some favorites from the show.
Nice shots. Fireworks photography can be challenging and frustrating, but worth it when they turn out well.
Very nice series of photos!!!

Thanks, that whole show shot out of focus drove me nuts. This display made up for it, and it was probably the best show that I attempted to see anyway. :)

Love the last one!
Thanks, I have to remember in the future when the lights go nuts, to stop down my aperture a bit, but it was good anyway.

Thank you very much. It has been suggested to me by people involved in the sternwheel festival to enter their photo contest. I am debating, but the effort to get them prints, and a disk, etc., is a bit much.
aren't they far enough away that you can just focus at infinity?

Nope, you have to pull back a bit (which is common)

These worked.
Thank you, I was pleased.
I curious as to why you used the ND filter?

I saw another photographer had and did not need to make as much adjustments in PP for highlights, etc. I found it to be true as well.
