Some specs are out of the closet. Dual card slots, new joystick and a 80mp sensor!

A Canon 80mp “FF” sensor would be roughly the same pixel density as a Canon 31mp “APS-C” sensor. I am much more interested in higher ISO performance than in having even more pixels .... I hope they have that under control.

This looks like it has potential for wildlife, portraiture and fashion photography. With hard drive space so cheaply found, I'm sure there will be an attraction factor.

Not to split hairs, but...

Canon just filed a patent on an 83MP full frame sensor, which reportedly has the same pixel density as the 32.5MP APS-C sensor that will be in the upcoming 90D and M6 Mark II cameras.

Early reports at that the new 32.5MP APS-C sensor compares well with the 24MP APS-C sensor that was used in the 80D and many other models. According to DXO, compared to the 24MP sensor was Canon's best APS-C to date for dynamic range and color depth. Considering the big increase in resolution, if the 90D matches that, it will be pretty darned good.

BUT, if you compare the 50MP full frame 5Ds/5Ds-R models with the 20MP APS-C sensor used in the 7D Mark II (and in the earlier 70D) - which have identical density or "pixel pitch" - the full frame cameras have a more limited ISO range. The 7D Mark II's ISO range is 100-16000, expandable to 51200. The 5Ds/5Ds-R's ISO range is 100-6400, expandable to 50 and 12800.

Because of that, I wouldn't be surprised to see the EOS "RS" (if they call it that) to have a reduced ISO range. After all, someone using an 83MP camera is unlikely to be looking for ultra high, usable ISOs. The 90D is said to have an ISO range of 100 to 25600, expandable to 51200. My best guess is that the 83MP camera will have a 100 to 12800 range, expandable to 50 and 25600. But, it actually might be higher because Canon is also using two generation newer and much more powerful Digic 8 processors in their cameras now. Those might effect ISO and noise reduction, as well as other things. The 5Ds/5Ds-R cameras use dual Digic 6 processors, too. So does the 7D Mark II, but the 90D manages to match it's 10 fps with a single Digic 8, even with the 90D's significantly higher resolution. Remains to be seen if the EOS RS will have dual processors, to handle those huge image files.

In my opinion, the "native ISO range" of most recent Canon DSLRs are usable with some minor limitations at the high end. For example, while I would use it if needed, I wouldn't enlarge an ISO 16000 image from my 7D Mark IIs as much as I would shots done at lower ISOs. I also use more advanced noise reduction on anything above 1600, especially anything above 3200. I rarely use any Canon camera's "expansion" ISOs (in fact, I have the cameras set to prevent accidental selection of them). I've mostly only used expansion ISOs as a last resort and have usually converted the images to black & white.
