I found one that I could use on Hoya's site for another lens that I have. I hadn't thought of that before. What I really want is 57mm, which appears to br a rare bird, indeed.
I've scoured the usual places - Amazon, Adorama, Beach, and the like - and came up with little when searchig for star filters.
Any tips? And, not expensive - this is thevless serious side of photography.

When you say 'stare filter' I assume you mean you want the effect to take a multiple light point and give it a sparkle effect on the highlight. Give that any fine mesh screen will render this effect. se metal mesh wire, aluminum will give the effect, while copper delivers the same but with a warmer yellow effect. An old trick works for still, motion picture and video. Different effects are delivered with different mesh sizes.

Are you trying to get a star effect on lights at night?
You don't need a filter, and you certainly don't have to use the smallest fstop. This was taken at F6.3 using a Nikon 80-200mm F2.8 lens. Using smaller apertures will only make your image very soft due to diffraction - and I wouldn't recommend doing that at all.
