Took one of my grandsons to a place called Cranberry Glades. It is a unique place with some really nice vistas. Instead he starts using the much maligned Canon 24-105L as a macro. He was just using what we took. Some are not in great focus he was pushing the lens to focus closer than it liked.
The thing is he hadn't taken pictures before (he is 17). He didn't know what aperture was, didn't have a clue what ISO meant. and his expression when I mention depth of field was priceless. He was just looking. When I was showing him his "pictures" he liked them. Getting him to go a camera club is my next goal, right after having fun with it.
See - ya really CAN make photographs when all you know is to look through the viewfinder & press the shutter release button!

He has a good eye. Get him into a beginners photography class so he can learn camera basics and watch him go.
