I recently made a trip with my wife to Peru. Of course the big relics of the Inca empire are Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley and we visited all them. But we wanted to visit also the highest lake over sea level in the world, lake Titicaca. Lake Titicaca is in the border between Peru and Bolivia and it is easy to acces to it going to Puno . We could stay at a hotel with a great lake view, but we decided to have a more wild life for a couple of days, staying in one of the floating island in the middle of the Titicaca Lake with the Uro´s people. It was an adventure because there is not to much information about them and their language is Aymara. But still we decided to go. We made the trip from Arequipa to Puno by a rented car, crossing the highest point at 4528m over sea level(14846 feet). Of course one can arrive to Puno by other transport like bus, train or flight. Once arriving at Puno, a call to the island (of course they talk in spanish, english and any other tourist language)and they sent a taxi to pick up us. First the taxi driver drove us to a garage to park the car for a couple of days and then drove us to a little port to climb in a little boat and start our trip to the island. This trip is aproximately 15 minutes. Once in the floating island the silence and the peace is overwhelming. The hosts were extremely kindness. Food all natural and very well done as usual with the peruvian cuisine. Sky very clean, 12% humidity and sunsets and nights like I had never seen before.
In brief, a couple of nights in a complete totora cabin in the middle of a lake with views, peace and silence like 500 years ago. Very recommendable.
Thanks CPO. I would like to have an RV like you to travel all the whole america, north, central and south..
Looks like great fun. What are the totora ships made of?
Hi NMGAL
The totora is a plant that grows in the Titicaca lake on a floating root like a cork. The leafts are long, thin and very resistents. With them people build floating island to live, cabins, boats and other many things like the ancient egiptians.

Well so far just the northern two thirds of North America. Mexico is a bit dangerous yet. Would love to go but not worth the risk for us. The U.S. and Canada have been great especially Alaska, British Columbia, the Yukon and the western half of the U.S. We tend to stay west of the Mississippi River. It's a great lifestyle.
Hi CPO
We have been in the parks of the west side of USA and Canada. Beautiful really. And you are right some parts of Mexico can be dangerous, but South America is not, except you must be cautious in the big cities as usual in any part of the world.
All of this in very amazing.
