Fair entries, what won, what didn't

I entered 8 pictures in the TN Valley Fair here in Knoxville. Of course there isn't a comparison to see what they were against, but all the same, see if you can pick what won. Here are the pictures and categories:

I had 2 firsts, 2 seconds, and one 3rd. I know the portrait of the family was really not in the correct category and is a gimme as one that didn't place. There wasn't really a category for that picture, but I liked the natural position that the little girl posed in.

Actually, when I showed all the pics to a friend prior to knowing any winners, he said that was the one that was his favorite overall.

Love the dog and the boy with the chain in his mouth best but all are interesting.

Thanks, the dog is a favorite and both of those you picked are ones I thought might place.

I'll give the rundown of what actually did place later.

The night shot and the dog are my picks. The other ones are well shot but I wouldn’t count them as prize winners.

I like the candid teenager but the kid doesn’t look like a teenager to me. Don’t know if that would factor in to judging.

This particular photo was what I titled "counseling". He graduated from HS last spring and now is in college. He ran a baseball camp a year ago for underprivileged children as a school project. It was a big hit and so he did it again this summer and I offered to shoot some pics at it. This one and the one with the boy with the necklace in his mouth are both from that series. The picture you commented about had him dealing with one of the boys who had some sort of problem that day. I never knew what the problem was, but I thought that the posture and position of each told the "counseling" story. So yes, he was/is a teenager, but no, the boy being counselled is/was not.
