Using the Panasonic 100-300 MII with Olympus M1 II

Good Sunday morning,
I am looking at the Olympus 40-150 Pro with 2X converter but would be interested in information from anyone who has used the Panasonic lenses with the Olympus body. How is speed, AF and IQ. Does the OIS sync with the in body IS? Any practical info will be appreciated.

I am so glad you asked ... not because I have any answers for you (sorry!) but rather because I am looking at exactly the same options and just haven't gotten around to posting the question.

Looking forward to tracking any replies on this one :)

I recently took some pictures at the local Zoo with my PEN F and the 100-300 Panasonic lens.

Attached is an example

You can go across brands with certain caveats. Panasonic OIS does not work with Olympus IBIS. But either will work by itself. Choose one. The OIS in long zooms is likely the best choice.

The OIS will not operate but everthing else will. AF should not be affected anymore than any 4/3rds lens would function with that type of lens. The 400 is just slightly soft but is still considered high IQ. You might want to get the 40-150 now with the 1.4X teleconverter and then get the 150-400 f4.5 with the 2X next year. That combination will get you from 80mm to 2000mm in 35mm angle of view. Rumor has it as handholdable at the "2000mm" end of the range. From what rumors I have heard, the lens will have two IS sets instead of one IS like most lenses. Still don't know how handholdable it can be at "2000mm" (1000mm in 4/3rds reality). Also, the 40-150 f2.8 with the 1.4X tele and the 300 f4 Pro IS is another great combination to consider. The 1.4X can be used on either lens and then add in the 2X to extend the 300 out even further. Still, the 100-400 is a good combination with the Olympus but I don't know how good it will be with a 2X on it. I know it will have a better IQ with the 1.4X than the 2X.

I have used the Panasonic 100-400 on my EM1 MK II since early 2017. I have been very satisfied with its sharpness and focus speed, although I have not tried to do any comparative tests.

I am interested in the Olympus 150-400 for more compatibility of lens IS and IBIS. Not sure about the lens price and resale of my Panasonic lens, so time will tell on that issue. I doubt I would use a 2x TC but adding a 1.4 TC to this lens could be useful in some situations.

The attached photo may help you. I took this with an Olympus OMDEM5ii last January in Kenya. The Panny 100-300 was at 300mm. I was very impressed with the sharpness of the lens! Any questions?

I tried Pany 100-300 with various lenses :-

1.Oly 4/3 50-200 comparing at 100, 200von Oly EM1 Mk ii.
2.Tamaron 14-150 at 100 and 150mm.
Pany was sharp, AF faster, stabilised (OSIS).
3.Did not compare with Oly 75-300.
4.Did not compare wth Oly pro 300mm f4

I am told by someone I was purchasing Pany 100-400....it is sharp till 300 n then loses sharpness.
My pennyworth comments.

As you can see from azted's shot, there is not much softening of the image at the long ends of the ranges and chromatic aberration is still well controled. There may be a slight bit more softness with the 100-400 versus the 100-300, but not many complaints about the IQ of either lens. Both are worthwhile lenses in the 4/3rds market.

I have the first version of the lumix 100-300. Little stiffness in the zoom ring, but all electronc functions work fine. I'm sure the 2nd gen. should work as well. Giving some thought to getting the 100-400 model sometime. Kind of waiting to see how much olympus is going to rape us for their version in 2020.
