A random Facebook repost from my sister. No attribution. Don't know, don't care. It's just something to ponder.

Our addicted society

An experiment once put a rat in a cage and gave it two water bottles. One is just water, and one is water laced with either heroin or cocaine. If you do that, the rat will almost always prefer the drugged water and almost always k**l itself, within a couple of weeks.

Then they said, “Well, hang on a minute. We’re putting the rat in an empty cage. It’s got nothing to do. Let’s try this a little bit differently.” So they made Rat Park, and Rat Park is like heaven for rats. It’s got lovely food. It’s got sex. It’s got loads of other rats to be friends with. It’s got loads of colored balls. Everything your rat could want. And they’ve got both the water bottles. They’ve got the drugged water and the normal water. Here’s the fascinating thing. In Rat Park, they don’t use the drugged water!

Here's the lesson....

We’ve created a society where significant numbers of our fellow citizens cannot bear to be present in their lives without being drugged, right? This is because our society is complete bulls**t! It's a fantasy land to keep you down and out. It's a matrix of sorts to distract, dumb-down and keep you from true happiness, true conscious awakening and from realizing your full potential. That is why fluoride is in your water, why v*****es are administered, and why your food isn't even food anymore. It's what TV and phones were created for. It's why government run schooling is pushed so hard. It's why every street corner has a pharmacy and a liquor store.

We’ve created a hyperconsumerist, hyperindividualist, isolated world that, for a lot of people,is much more like that first cage than it is like the bonded, connected world that we need. The opposite of addiction is not sobriety. The opposite of addiction is connection. And our whole society, the engine of our society, is geared towards making us connect with things not people. We are trained from a very young age to focus our hopes and our dreams and our ambitions on things we can buy and consume.

We’ve created a society where significant numbers of our fellow citizens cannot bear to be present in their lives without being drugged or sedated....and unfortunately this was the plan that was designed for us all along. They wanted a society where essentially everyone feels like the rat who was all alone in the cage.

The looney left will not win anything. There are too many conservative people not willing to turn their money over to loons.

Nice anti-v**xer trope. "That is why fluoride is in your water, why v*****es are administered, and why your food isn't even food anymore." Even if fetus were actually babies, eliminating v*****es would k**l much more than a******ns do. Of course, no one ever promised your posts would be logical.

Do you ever understand what the convo pertains to? Or just utter knee jerk whiny platitudes?

The subject is about our culture and infers the disassociation of our next generations.
40 - 70 years ago I remember "Go outside!" "Go outside and play!" "Back when the street lights are on!"
These days you can get arrested and Child Services will take your kids if you try that. Kid'll get mugged!
We had parks, Sports. Activities. Phys Ed and school yards. Many of these have dissipated away.
I see it in my grands. Little to no physical activity in school. Especially anything competitive. The kids sit. They sit in school. They sit in front of the TV. They sit and play video games. They sit and eat. Inside.
Like a lot of folk here, they sit. Mostly alone. Except for school or work, there's very little activity or socializing. Except when you are sitting in front of an appliance. Still inside. still alone.
Bored? Not as happy as you'd like? Get high. You're not going anywhere or doing anything anyway.
And if you are, its' better when you're high.

You're going to tell me that the corps who made them, the brokers who sold them, and the doctors who prescribed them, all FORGOT that opioids are almost universally addictive, that you'll build up a tolerance very quickly, and that there's synergistic responses with, say alcohol? "It's OK! My doctor said so!"
We also have vaping. They SAY it's safe because legally it's one small puff per portion, and one portion doesn't have much to it. NObody takes a half puff and puts it down for the day. Because of this, minors can buy nicotine. They also mix it with alcohol. Instant drunk- for 20 minutes. It drives the teachers and the cops crazy. You know this twerp has been wasted for the last 10 minutes or so. By the time you're halfway talking to him he's sober. "But it's OK! It's legal!" Every so often a teen smokes denatured alcohol.
A big sea change has happened in our behavior.
Whole sections of our society are almost alone, stay inside, need vast amounts of palliatives to get them thru their miserable existence, eat quasi food things, take opioids smoke weed, drink and smoke alcohol,
all on a daily basis as a normal way of life. But as long as they're buying stuff it's OK! Yay us! Buy some more stuff. HSN has all kinds of things you don't need. Not happy? Buy something else.

Elaine, I want you to put the pipe down and read a book. "The Marching Morons".

But its not anti-v**xer trope. If you bothered to look past the v*****es comment you’d see there’s a lot of t***h to it.

That little rant detracted from the point of the article. Interesting read otherwise.

I've read the study and you got that part right. However, the conclusions are simply opinions that are not supported by any evidence or fact.
Should have just gone with posting the study.

You're right - - we OUGHT TO be pondering what the study's author intended to ponder.

Here is the study in question, the parameters and the outcome:

It was. Also interesting is the liberals reaction to it. Somewhat stunted thought.

Did you borrow Elaine's pipe? And don't drink her bong water!!

In the meantime: There was an earlier study called "Ratopolis". Used to be a lot of issues involved.

I understand that the position of the loony left is to indoctrinate as many as they can and especially the loony left is easily led. I will not be one of them, I do not need to be "led" like the left does.
