Starena teams up with Cristi Cane to do some B&W's with a period feel.

Converting digital color into a B&W image can be difficult unless one decides on a basic period theme first. That period needs to reflect the 'feel' of the time and be supported by the styling of costumes and some what the setting. Making 'copy' work is not what interests me, catching the sense of that time by style and the rendering of the look that B&W images has can create a visual comment on things past.

The film China Town does this. The dark Cinema Verite* of the school of Noir style is good, it captures the feel of cheap junk novels and the dime magazines of an earlier era (the period being that of the 30's/40's).

The effect is that of the expanded color sensitivity into the red region, the replacement of Super Double XX and Tungsten sensitive film with the new daylight sensitive film types. So converting the B&W image from digital can be a simple transition but attention to the this transition must be anchored in the older style of imaging that was still being used with the older film stocks (Super Pancro Press, Type B). The use of gritty appearance but finely rendered detail is critical. The crude quality is carried by the realistic rendering of the film over layered by the still basic anastigmat lens designs that favored the green and blue portion of the spectrum.

This gives the basic 'look', that and the frontal flash effect through the diffused yet full frontal detailing from the intense flash discharge.

All of this will only work if the model(s) understand what is desired and can act out the scenario that is needed. Here it is in the nature of Cristi to slide into this type of modeling, it is in her out look of the Rowdy Girl Style. Starena is a powerful actress, she can get into the role and respond as the dominant to carry the main action. This is what comes of great modeling when the preparations are made and the action follows from two gifted models who are in fact actresses.

*Cinema Verite: The a style of filmmaking characterized by realistic, styled much in the manner of typically documentary motion pictures that avoid artificiality and artistic effect. Further, kino-pravda (film truth) the use of the camera to unveil truth behind crude reality.

The first and second ones to me say “possessive”.

Me, the 3rd one feels to me like she is definitely very protective!

I think I prefer the last one because to me it is the most tender. But that is me.

Serena was always worried about Cristi, Cristi lived a rough and generally unhappy life, while Serena has had a challenged life that has produced a loving sweet and powerful persona. Both are extremely gifted in each of their own capacities.

They were opposites, Cristi had her kitty PAPA, while Serena had Bandit her doggie. In the end when PAPA died Cristi followed quickly after. Serena saw Bandit die and she tells that she will know her time is upon her because she will see Bandit just before she dies.

Sometimes it would be like oil and water, but then Cristi would tone it down and Serena would open her heart to Cristi. But always, there were tensions, it made for great things when it all worked, and this time they both got it to work!

I like to see movement in photographic images, especially where flash is in use. There is a certain unique quality that photography exhibits that does not come across in drawing nor painting.

You so right too, photography does capture those expressions and imagery like nothing else can. I see these in pictures and of course other art forms too. Photography captures real people in mostly real expressions. I choose not to nit-pik the details on the photos posted all over this site regardless of the who's what's etc. There are plenty of experts to provide their feedback on this. I enjoy the good things here and Tim you are a very active contributor to the HOGG site and I myself and I know others appreciate you for your time and posts. Hey Bruce, is it HOT up there? San Antonio was suppose to have loads of Texas sized clouds today, but NO! Instead they went up thar to Dull-Assed. Now why did them clouds do that? I just can't understand this bee-havior! I think perhaps I need ta call up dem Rangers and have them corralled! But I won't cause they will just be lazy and tell me that the city named after the Bod of God's kid says they have first dibs! Shure, RIGHT! It's getting sad when you can't trust a Texas Ranger no more!

This week on Thursday it was a balm 98F, the rest of the time it has been 100F , 101F even 103F this week.

So, it is suppose ta be HOT the rest of the week. Will VADA be around to try out the new up stairs Air Aquarium? NOPE!

Off to Mexico to do sun bathing wiff her little sis (calm down she's 37!)! If I recollect right, it was similar that day to that day that they done came and played in the garden... such naughty girls! Them stripper platform ultra shoes! She was so cute! "I always wanted to try out platform stripper shoes!" She asserted. VADA told me her Sis loves to go watch the strippers with her boy friend! So I gave her the shoes.

Oh yea, tech stuff, California Sun Bounce reflector, 40 percent gold Zebra stripe, man them are expensive but they do work great!

The model on the left looks odd to me. It is as if a head from a different photo/model has been pasted onto a body. I see nothing of value in this snapshot.

Thanks for your complement! I must be a master of photography then, to give an image that is not manipulated to appear as though it has been photo shopped and all under the guise of a snap shot styled image. Yet I can only take the complement so deeply as you analysis displays such a deep lack of understanding of photography that it flies in the face of a credible critique.

To help others to grasp a deeper understanding of this image, the woman on the left is indeed experiencing an effect. Her face has gone into a certain whiteness. That is to say she is in what might be termed a first level of shock. She is both becoming over heated (heat stroke) and a level of arousal that is quite intense. This is a biological issue of body response to her environment and her response to the staged erotic response. This is the erotic response that occurs from an intense response to a life reaction.

To follow up, one time when I was teaching a figure class one of the new models had a sever reaction to her third session, that is, her entire body become covered with the finest perspiration. When I say fine I mean it appeared that a fine mist of the tiniest droplets covered her entire body. This was brought to my attention by one of the students. I ended the session, called another student who herself was a RN and asked her to help with the model, she agreed that the model was in shock. We wrapped her up and removed her to an isolated location.

I will admit that I wished I could have worked with a model in such a state, thinking that applying a finely misted spray perhaps of oil could create such a look. But the real of the situation called for a different handling, models in a state of shock is not a good thing. So a few minutes later with the above session shown above, I called the session and asked her how she felt then removed her to a quite AC room to recover.

It was the white face that got my attention in the end, with no make up, but the face looking like it had become white like it was covered in white theater make up, told the tale.

Let me finish with this, in the boy scouts I had a horrible condition one camp out of dehydration and heat stroke. On that day it was hot and the humidity at a maximum. I myself was clothed and they had a fan on them to help with cooling. I has hot but the effects of the heat were not reaching severity for myself, so I was surprised when I realized that the left hand model was in a state of distress. As photographers we are the responsible element for the totality of a shoot, especially safety. Yet we ourselves are human and can only do so much as often we are or should be focused on creative image making.

good to hear from ya. Yup it's hot up here too. We are having a cool spell now, mid to upper 90's this coming week and last week 100 with heat index over 100. It's Texas, I will take it any day over cold weather.

Oh yea dem clouds, they were here a couple of days, nice puffy and colorful, they are mostly gone now and and it looks like they are coming back down your way so look out.

Yuppers, I hear ya! Dull-Ass is a lot like Houston. In a simple question...WHY? Oh well. But yer correct, not interested in winter, like that about Southwest Texas. It is so nice to know that VADA gets bored between Christmas and New Years so it's off to the garden for several hours of naughty nude fun!

Your dad is 93. Mine was 93 when he decided he had enough, too many things just kept repeating and he was done with all this earthly coil. Funny thing is I have him in a tall cloth easy chit holding the last grandson in his hands, either of them could have won the 'look a like contest' for Elmer Fudd!

Them clouds, indeed they returned, and are romping about up thar in the hot sunny skies!

I've been working on the sky apartment for weeks. That VADA chick will be over this Sunday to play. I need to hunt down that hottie Kat (Spoken as Cat). Wish I could get that Jenny KNOX back to play but she got a case of the 'normals' and doesn't want to play in front of the camera any more.

Got to go doe some more work on the apartment. BUT!!! Halloween is just around the corner! VADA is Uber Hot for that Pagan time! So expect some more naughty fun soon!
