Today I had the opportunity to take (200) photos of new firefighter paramedic students practicing for multi casualty incidents. Their mock patients were nursing students. A win-win for all. Relationships built.

All photos: Nikon D850 and AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f3.5-5.6G ED VR Zoom.

I went through the paramedic program in 1983 so I could relate. It brought back many memories.

Please let me offer a mild critique.

I was an Boy Scout Leader and an EMT many years ago. It is important to simulate traumatic events to desensitize responders. I have done it when training scouts and techs. But the trauma must look and feel close to real as possible. Victims should be moaning, groaning and even wincing in pain. It gains more effect that way. All though you are working/training with your compatriots you should not be smiling. Photographing a victim should look real. It should have visual impact even though this is a training session. Before the "trauma" set up a photograph with the responder. Smiles should be all around. Then do a during shot with the "victim" not in uniform experiencing the "trauma" with the responder intent and head on into the lesson. Then you can take group shots of all together.

The photographs will have a greater effect in a "show and tell" in the future.

If you didn't appreciate my critique, please accept my sincere apology.

Thank you, Scruples

Happy Shooting!

AS a first responder, this looks like my training ground (practice makes all the difference) in Santa Barbara County. Thanks for the pics and the reminder. I have moved and need to redo my training at my new location. Some things remain similar, same the same and others are quite different dependant upon where you are located, our country is quite diverse. Where we want and need the training to be as real as we can make it, we were all happy campers with broad smiles and grins when we were finished. That is those of us that had any energy left. Thank you for the great pictures and the reminder and memories. Sam
