Hi Hogs, I currently have 40,000 + photos in LR . I have them backed up on three 5 TB external hard drives and a travel 2 TB portable I have one 5 TB off site. Is there a free or inexpensive back up system that will store my photos in the cloud and automatically backup my photos daily / weekly/ monthly or on a regular basis. I am getting more forgetful and less enthusiastic about my Manual process.

Thanks for your knowledge, experience and help

Joe

Take a look at ARQ Backup - https://www.arqbackup.com/

I use it to backup to Amazon Cloud Drive. Runs in background with very low overhead.

Why not just use Time Machine? Included with 10.5 and later versions of MacOS

He was looking for a solution to backup automatically to the Cloud. TM is great, but relies on local attached storage... actually kinda surprised that Apple has never latched on to expanding TM to use their iCloud storage, as they could then sell people more storage.

Thanks - wasn’t aware of that. In that case, what about backing up to ICloud/ICloud Drive?

If you're asking if Time Machine can use iCloud as a target, that won't work...

FWIW - Time Machine will easily backup external drives as well...

I use TM on my iMac to back up my internal system disk, my external TB attached disk that holds my music & all my images to another external TM backup disk.

I also use Chronosync to make a mirror image of my images & a few critical data files monthly to another external disk kept in a fireproof box. Chronosync will also function with cloud backup systems like Amazon's S3.

Both applications are set it and forget it, each runs automatically according to the schedules.

Thanks - I wasn’t. Suggesting ICloud as a cloud DR copy - wouldn’t need Time Machine. I use Amazon S3 for PCs and ICloud for my Apple devices.

I use Carbonite.
I also use SyncBack to backup/syncronize to my external from my internal drive. It can backup from/to any mapped drive.
