how to capture faded floors

Wondering how to set Sony a-100 to show details of hardwood floors where sun-faded vs. areas under carpet, which are vibrant. Contrast is important, but I am not getting it right so far. thanks folks!

not sure how to set up side lighting- take a trouble light to room and use that? TY for reply!

Sorry, but that's all I've got. I'm thinking that straight-on lighting would wash out differences.
