It always strikes me, while reading a post that strikes my interest, why there are those of us on this site that seek to shut down someone's question about any topic that may have been discussed on UHH before with the suggestion to go and "Search" it out because, God forbid, it was brought up for discussion before? I don't know about anyone else, but if I am not interested in anyone's particular discussion topic or question, I don't open it up and start reading it. To those of you who are suggesting that any topic that has been previously discussed, and are not interested in it, then why are you opening up that question or topic to read it in the first place??? Are we not allowed to talk about anything further once it has been previously discussed? Is there nothing left to be said on said question or topic? Photography topics are unending from the most basic to the most complex and yes, they do come up for discussion, all over the internet, over and over again. Of course, probably a lot of the topics have been talked about here before to one degree or another. All I am saying is if someone doesn't bring up a question because it has been previously talked about, then those of us who might not have been aware of the question, or ever thought about it, might find the question interesting, and never would have thought about it had it not been brought up for discussion once again.

I too sometimes want to see one of these topics get discussed again but you need to figure the intent of the person posting the issue. If they are asking a question that has been adequately answered in the previous days and are really looking for a answer rather than just throwing something out then letting them know that doing a search will expedite their getting the answer they want. I know a lot of topics tossed out are just to generate discussion but there are those that have a real question and want the answer.

The only time I suggest a search is when the OP has said they tried the UHH search and could not get any hits. I then suggest how to structure a google search limited to this site. Such as;
"Google" site:uglyhedgehog.com
Will bring up thousands of hits.
Otherwise I think any question, no matter how often repeated, can benefit from reexamination.
Those who suggest Google should just not bother responding to the thread.

Many of us regulars contribute thousands of hours dispensing free advice here. Please consider how inefficient for us it is to answer the same question that has been flogged to death for 2100 pages before.

Internet users, PLEASE learn how to use search engines and search tools. Your life will be better for it, with greatly enhanced independence and freedom, and knowledgeable mavens everywhere will have more time to respond to your questions of a deeper nature.

Read The *Fine* Manual, too. It can’t hurt, even if it doesn’t make sense the first or second time. As the brilliant 20th Century composer, Frank Zappa once said, “Go to the public library and educate yourself.”

If that’s somehow abrasive or offensive, it certainly isn’t meant as such. It’s meant as a constructive reminder that learning requires a certain amount of active participation and personal responsibility.

Man, it is like Nikon vs. Canon, Filter or No filter, DSLR vs. Mirrorless, Sony vs. the "Rest of the World". Just put honest titles on the threads so those of us who find these kinds of things uninteresting can just pass by.

Couldn’t agree more. But it won’t stop. Some people are just SMALL and need to pull others down for company.

You're looking at this from the standpoint of the reader who, as you say, can simply ignore a topic he/she is not interested in. And so they can.

But if you look at it from the standpoint of those asked to respond you might get a different perspective. Yes, the responders can also walk away and ignore the question. But I'm guessing many of the good UHHers want to help, so they feel drawn to a request from a poster.

Can we agree that asking questions that have already been posed in recent days and are still active topics should be avoided? Would it be that hard for an about-to-be poster to take a quick look at current topics to avoid duplication?

Edit: Just read burkphoto's post.

At first glance it looked like you were agreeing with yourself. Then I blinked and the 'n' came into focus.
