Masked Lapwing (Plover).

Lapwing is the correct name, but most Aussies would simply call it a plover (I had never heard of the word 'lapwing' until I bought a couple of bird books, lol). These birds have a sharp 3/4" (18mm) spur on the 'elbow' of each wing, & they will use these if provoked. They are well known for feigning injury, such as a broken wing, to lead predators away from their eggs. Downloading is recommended.

Great shots. The first bird I photographed on a trip to Australia a couple years ago. I had no idea what it was at the time.
