Bugatti Chiron has set the world record for a streetable supercar with a speed of 304 mph, that is amazing and scary. What next, 400 mph?

What is the point of it?

How many people that can afford to own one are capable of driving it safely at 3-digit speeds? And where would they drive it? It seems investor capital could be spent developing more rationally applicable technology.

In my opinion this IS rational technology just as was the wheel, dynamite, the first airplane, the first vehicle and so on. Nothing says people have to drive at 3 digit speeds but perhaps the innovations on this vehicle will be later used on normal passenger vehicles to make us all safer. Think back to the first automobie ever invented and a person saying, Oh hell now somebody will be run over.

Does it matter, at 300 mph you better have both hands on the steering wheel anyway.

Very well stated, Dennis, it has been stated that in the early days of the automobile, a person couldn't withstand speeds beyond 35 mph, they would surely die.

I guess you got that one right. But at 35mph I die of boredom...

Just room enough in the car for a driver, a short note to next kin & one totally terrified passenger!

I can't help but wonder where the passenger is sitting if there is only room for a driver. Just asking for a friend.

Just an attempt @ humor -- Assuming the "standard" I could purchase with "all" of our money & then some is a Two Passenger set-up

Be specific - what technology in this car related to going 300mph is applicable to future automobiles that Joe Citizen will be driving in 5 or 10 years from now at 2-digit speeds? Not to be argumentive, but being as I am not an automotive engineer I would be interested to know the specific technologies that will carry over to where automotive transportation is going to make it better for mainstream purposes.
